One of the easiest and fastest ways to spruce up furniture is to change the hardware. It also works for built-ins of course and in the case of Wille’s closets, the brown glass knobs needed to go.
Here’s a close-up of one of the knobs. They’re actually pretty cool and from a Swedish glassworks but they just didn’t work in the room and for a teenager. My friend Sanna was happy to inherit them though so they’re till in the family.
I got some handles at IKEA but ran into a problem when I removed the knobs. Part of the paint behind the knob decided to come off too.
I didn’t want to have to repaint the door fronts so I came up with the idea to use washers behind. The washers hide the missing paint spot.
And here’s the final result. A little younger, a little fresher. I will probably repaint the closet door at some point but was happy I didn’t have to right now. And the tops of those handles are perfect for hanging stuff off. The stuff that’s not on the floor that is :).
