Christmas Eve Recap

Later today I’m off to spend a couple of days with my mom down south but before I leave I thought I’d share a few photos from last night. Martin came over for lunch and we exchanged gifts. This year was tricky in terms of gift giving for Wille because the only thing he could think of that he wanted were a pair of jeans and some PJ bottoms. Yeah, I know, all grown up! At the same time I enjoyed the challenge and came up with some additiional things I knew he would enjoy like these Old Fashioned glasses, this, this and this book, binoculars, a James Bond DVD and the piece de resistance, a banjo which came as a complete surprise to him which was great.   We had a mini version of traditional Christmas smörgåsbord with stuff like pickled herring (remember the one I got at Skansen?), smoked salmon, ham, smoked lamb shank, sausages and cheeses.   We also had some home made Rocky Road and the Åre chocolates I got from Anne. Btw Åre’s a ski resort in the north and I used to go there quite often when I worked at my former job. When I used to go there it was early days chocolate making. Now they’re famous. Gotta love a success story! Mini and Bonus also got gifts in the shape of Yeowwws but of course the most interesting of all were the boxes, wrapping paper and string.  If you have cats and aren’t familiar with Yeowwws btw, check them out, Mini and Bonus LOVE them and they’re really finicky when it comes to catnip toys. I hope you guys had/have a great Christmas too!

Wille’s Birthday

Tags: , , , , ,

So on Friday we celebrated Wille’s 18th birthday. We had cake and he opened gifts as friends and relatives called and texted their birthday wishes. The gifts included money towards a trip (more on that later), a denim jacket, a pair of Jeans (both Nudie), cash, an iPhone bumper and some other bits and bobs.   In the evening we met up with Martin and his girlfriend Cecilia and had dinner at a restaurant in the city and after that Martin and Wille went to a local bar to have another beer. As Wille said “because I can” :). All in all a great day.

Name Days

Do you celebrate Name Day in your country? Here in Sweden each day of the year has a couple of names and some families celebrate their family member's name days with cake and a little gift. For the longest time Wille didn't have a name day but lo and behold in the 2011 calendar William'smade a come back! Unlucky for my boy that his name day happens to coincide with his birthday, April 6th… I looked the name day thing up on Wikipedia and I already knew that some catholic countries like France celebrate saints on different days of the year and I guess over here it also started out with a celebration of famous religious people but nowadays it seems to be more a popularity thing. When we named Wille William over sixteen years ago it wasn't a popular name at all but a few years ago it was suddenly number 1 on the list of new born boy's names and thus it has reappeared in the calendar. I don't have a name day any longer. For a brief while in the 80's I shared March 21st with Bengt and Bengta but then they decided there were too few of us Benitas and probably even fewer Bengtas so Bengt has to celebrate without us. If you do celebrate Name Day, how do you celebrate it?
