The Bar Cart

This is not a sponsored post despite that big yellow and blue logo on the box. As you know Wille took a bartending course in Dublin in September. When he was still over there we were texting each other about setting up some sort of a bar so he could still practice his stuff at home. There’s no room in the kitchen to organize a bar cabinet so we decided to get a bar cart of some sort. I have had my eyes on this one ever since it came out and have wanted to use it somewhere and saw my chance. After I pinned it someone mentioned that it’s on the small side and after checking the dimensions I sadly realized it is.   So instead we got the Råskog. I’m not happy that it wasn’t available in white but we’re considering a few coats of spray paint. Unfortunately the spray painting season is over so that will be something to tackle come spring.   Anyway, Wille’s a happy camper. All his stuff fits and is easily accessible.   I’m a happy camper too. I get offered all sorts of cocktails! I love seeing Wille do his stuff, it looks so professional! Favorite cocktails so far, the Bee’s Knees and Gimlet.

New Sofa

There’s quite a bit happening in the living room right now. I guess after almost 18 months of staying here I’m at the stage where the major renovations are done and I’m starting to figure out what we want and need in the rooms. Right after we moved in it was more a matter of filling the space with things we had.   As you can see something’s missing under the window.   I bought this old sofa on a whim at the local charity shop just after moving in. We needed extra seating and I thought it was kind of fun to mix in with the more contemporary furnishings. Turned out it was just too uncomfortable. While Wille and I do watch TV in the den upstairs we like to hang out downstairs too and also I always felt bad for guests who ended up on that 200+ year old thing. So I sold it for exactly what I paid for it a year ago.   Enter a new purchase. Because I‘m splurging on another item (or two actually) the sofa’s a cheapo IKEA one. It has great reviews though from my BFF Anne who sleeps on one just like it every night so I knew it would be comfy.     It’s MUCH bigger than what was previously there and the shape is so different so it takes a little bit of getting used to but I like it. I don’t like that the cover for the frame’s too big though so I’ll be tossing that in the washer and dryer so it’ll hopefully shrink it to fit better.   Mini has enjoyed it from day one.   And Wille also has no complaints.   So I’m happy.

Spray Painted Rug

I’ve had this IKEA rug in my possession for a while now. I picked it up at the local charity shop but once I brought it home I didn’t like it. Something about the shade of beige. I’ve been using it in the laundry room because it does get quite chilly under foot in there. But since beige isn’t really my thing I decided I’d do something about it.   And spray painted it silver. As you may remember I’ve tried painting rugs before without much success (more like a hot mess) but I figured that since this was a rug I didn't really like and I had some silver spray paint I’d give it a go anyway. First I did a coat with spray primer just because I had some on hand. And then quite a few coats of the silver. I finished off with a clear spray (again because I had it) in the hope to seal the silver so Wille wouldn’t find himself walking around with glitzy socks.   I left the rug to air out and cure properly over night and then brought it inside. And here’s the result. Verdict: 1) It’s more grey than silver. Which is ok because I like grey. 2) The paint has started to wear off slightly after some weeks of use but it still looks ok. I might take it outside and give it an extra coat in that hard traffic area around the machines. 3) The feel of the rug is surprisingly good. You would not know there were lots of coats of spray paint on there. 4) Would I do it again? On a cheap flat weave rug like this with some left over spray paint. Yes. With a nicer more expensive rug and having to buy paint. Maybe not. Happy weekend! Ps. Welcome all new readers from Young House Love! What a nice surprise from Sherry that was yesterday :).
